Hello and welcome to Nodehill's Study Skills Blog!
As from September 2007 Study Skills in our school will be taking a Learning to Learn approach. On our blog you will be able to find examples of work and also the types of activities we are carrying out as part of our Study Skills curriculum. Our goal is to empower children to take control of their learning and produce critical thinkers, decision makers, problem solvers and effective life long learners. We would appreciate feedback and ideas and hope you enjoy our blog.

This year in Study Skills we have learnt how to revise and how to keep away from distractions whilst doing homework. Our class were asked ways to keep away from distractions and just get on. We came up with alot of ideas like don't watch television whilst doing homework; do not use computers unless you need to to do the work; keep away from any game consoles. We were told loads of websites to go on to revise and one of the best ones was bbc bitesize which i know go on alot. In all, Study Skills as a subject is quite enjoyable, and it really helped me to revise.

I really like the way we have revised and learned all sorts of new things.
We have leaent about how we like to revise and i realised that I prefer using mindmaps instead of writing (this is because I like to write not too much and i also like to draw, which we did).
Also we have done lots of science revision every friday(we have done quizez, mind maps and went to bbc sites)and if we got a question right, we got sweets!!!

in study skills we have learned about how we like to revise - I prefer to revise in a enviroment where other people like parents are in the same room so they can help me if I don't understand.

In study skillls we have learnt how to organise ourselves and how to revise. To help us revise we know how important it is to be organised, and in study skills we have learnt life skills to keep us organised and we've learnt methods to help us revise properly. I have found that a quiet, peaceful place is the best for revising. We learnt how to revise so that we can revise for our sats and for future tests. We have learnt how to revise using different methods such as mindmaps, reading and using colour coding. These mothods can help us revise maths, english and science. We have also learnt that different people use different techniques that work differently for them.

We have been working on revision, organisation and how to find a quiet place to revise for our sats. We were working on these things for later day life and this also helps us get ready for our sats. We find colour-coded mind maps and reading texts through over and over again the best way to revise at school.

We have been looking at how to organise our trays, bags and most importantly ourselves. We have also been revising for sats.
Posted by: Macaulay and Callum | April 04, 2008 at 11:16 AM
In study skills this term we have learnt alot about how to organise our trays, bags and more! We have also discused what are best revision techniques. We have discused places which are best to do homework for example the Library is a good place because it is a quieta. If you are lucky enough to have a study or an office at home that is also a good place to do homework and revision for S.A.T.S and test. A not so good place to revise is infront of the T.V because you can get easily distracted if your favourite program comes on and you will forget all about what you are doing. Revising is easier for some people than others because they might find english and maths easier, and are proberbly in higher sets 1,2 and 3 for english and maths. So to get a good mark or level on your work i suggest you revise for it.

In studdy Skills this term we have been learning about Revising for sats, organising our trays and our bags and have had a book and we had to try and remember some of the key points of peoples lives. We have also made a colour coded map about Science. So we have done this not only because of sats but because they can help you in your everyday life.Overall i would say that the most fun way to help me learn is colour coded maps but i find oranising things the most easiest.
