Last week we had some form based time. Mrs Bushell used this time to create a town with her class (similar to what the year 5s and 6s are doing with the Real Game). I’ve been given the work they produced which is fantastic. There towns include everything you would expect to see in any real town, things like a library, shops, different types of housing and schools. It’s great to see links being made to real life projects and problems in the classroom. Here are some photos!
5NG did some Emotional Literacy work. We started off looking at some emotions flash cards. The children then moved on to writing about times in which they had felt some of these emotions. We then had a circle time and discussed times when we’ve felt happy, angry, excited, upset, frightened and confident. After break we discussed anger and how best to deal with situations which make you angry. Children completed a work sheet about anger management. Finally to finish the morning off we spoke about how important it is to be complimentary to our friends and family. The children drew around their hands and then cut them out. They wrote their names in the middle and then I shared out the hands amongst the class. On each of the fingers on the hand the children wrote 5 nice things about the person the hand belonged to. The children were then given their hands back and decorated them. We then displayed them on our Study Skills board. From Mrs Sivier... In form based time recently I have done some 'real life' thinking and
discussions tasks - one based on NASA and children had to decide which
equipment was the most useful to complete a trek across the moon (!)
and another one, which took longer but led to lots of interesting
discussion, about life after the nuclear holocaust where children were
one of a small group of people left but there was not enough space in
the bunker or resources for them all to stay and they had to decide who
should remain. This task was not so straight-forward as the space one
and can be made more complicated by mixing up the characters (i.e. a
doctor who is also the disabled person). Both times I did these the
classes - once my own and once a mixed class of 6NS and 6LR - the
children really enjoyed them and almost everyone got involved in the
discussion as there was not the focus on right and wrong.
