The Make it Real Game

This half term pupils in Years 5 and 6 will be working on the “Make it Real Game” projects.  The current Year 5 will continue with their projects in September whilst the new Year 5s work on the learning styles topics.

 

In the “Make it Real Game” pupils learn by experience, mostly in small groups, in a simulated community. They assume life/work roles and work together in their roles functioning as working people in their community. The learning is designed to be fun! Pupils start by creating and naming their town and local neighbourhoods. They locate key public buildings, choose and plan housing and identify transport options. Pupils then form and name a small company, hire staff, secure offices and finally they carry out an assignment as a business team.

 

During the process pupils learn personal and interpersonal skills and:

• begin to understand the services and occupations that make up a town;
• start to understand terms such as community, business, career and occupation;
• learn the importance of education and qualifications in getting jobs; and gain an understanding that there are different learning pathways.

In Study Skills we have been getting in pears, making up a businnes I went whith jack. We then got given a piece of paper, we then drawed on the piece of paper are logo, Building (but only the front)and are businnes card.

I have enjoyed this half - term with The Make It Real Game. I didn't enjoy it when we went over again a few things. However, I really enjoyed it when our group name got chose Ocean Island and i really liked the group we had it was, me Grace Burch, Grace Savage, Bethan Smith, Becky Aitken and Alice Smith. I enjoyed it as well when we got to choose what job we wanted to do when we were older and what skills we would need. My Favourite bit of the topic was when we done the job application.

my study skills lessons are the best i've had since i joined nodehill, it's fun, cool and wicked.The best bit i think was when we had to choose the name with a vote,(ocean island won)but i think hazelville should have won.I think the real game has showed me alot of what i need to do in life.

I enjoyed this subjct in study skills but sometimes we repeated the same things a few times. I enjoyed working in a group of our choice and then choosing a name to call the town! The town is called Ocean Island and that was the name that our group chose! The part that was about what you would like to be when you are older cause you could see what other people wanted to be when they grew up. Our group argued a bit sometimes but we eventually worked it out. The worst bit about the subject was when we had to discuss the skills for the jobs we needed because that was a bit boring.

This term we have been lerning about Jobs and town citizens. I enjoyed this because its was different to what we would normaly do. Also i liked this topic because we got to have a group with out friends. Our group made up the name of Ocean Island and it got chosen for the town name. Our group argued somtimes because somone took over and didnt let other people do their jobs. Some people we worked with didnt share ether. But appart from i liked this project
