This half term pupils in Years 5 and 6 will be working on the “Make it Real Game” projects. The current Year 5 will continue with their projects in September whilst the new Year 5s work on the learning styles topics.
In the “Make it Real Game” pupils learn by experience, mostly in small groups, in a simulated community. They assume life/work roles and work together in their roles functioning as working people in their community. The learning is designed to be fun! Pupils start by creating and naming their town and local neighbourhoods. They locate key public buildings, choose and plan housing and identify transport options. Pupils then form and name a small company, hire staff, secure offices and finally they carry out an assignment as a business team.
During the process pupils learn personal and interpersonal skills and:
- begin to understand the services and occupations that make up a town;
- start to understand terms such as community, business, career and occupation;
- learn the importance of education and qualifications in getting jobs; and gain an understanding that there are different learning pathways.

The real game is so cool, because you get to pick a town name you get to pick a job everything ,it is just so cool but i think that i have been doing quite good, because we tried to make a good town name, but even though we failed we tried our best,we picked a job each and i think the jobs we picked are quite sensible and will get us a bit of money but who must be happy is the people who got there name picked as our town name.

Hi Natalia,
I am currently taking a new post in Sept teaching Year 5 & 6 study skills..which is a bit daunting as I have only ever taught Art!
I found your website and it's fantastic! I want to teach it all. I really like the way you have planned it so the children discover themselves and begin to learn how they can be in control their own learning.
I think I might begin with the multi intelligences so they can work individually and come together as a group to discuss what they have found out. This would make a great display if I get them to draw and use clip art to express their intelligences!
Is it worth buying the book you have worked from?
Well..any other advice or resources you are willing to share would be great!
